Aotinae: A subfamily of the New World monkeys, CEBIDAE, inhabiting the forests of South and Central America. The Aotinae are also referred to as night monkeys or owl monkeys. There are two species occurring in this subfamily: Aotus azarae (Southern night monkeys) and AOTUS TRIVIRGATUS (Northern night monkeys).
Synonym: douroucouli, owl monkey, night monkey.
