Medical Conditions Terminology Of The Day

Phosphinous Acids

Inorganic acids that contain phosphorus as an integral part of the molecule.

Phospho-2-Keto-3-Deoxyheptonate Aldolase

An enzyme that catalyzes the formation of 7-phospho-2-keto-3-deoxy-D-arabinoheptonate from phosphoenolpyruvate and D-erythrose-4-phosphate. It is one of the first enzymes in the biosynthesis of tyrosine and phenylalanine. EC 4.1.12.15.

Phosphoamino Acids

Amino acids that contain phosphorus as an integral part of the molecule.

Phosphodiesterase Activating Factor

A heat-stable, low-molecular-weight activator protein found mainly in the brain and heart. The binding of calcium ions to this protein allows this protein to bind to cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases and to adenyl cyclase with subsequent activation. Thereby this protein modulates cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP levels.

Phosphodiesterase Activator Protein

A heat-stable, low-molecular-weight activator protein found mainly in the brain and heart. The binding of calcium ions to this protein allows this protein to bind to cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases and to adenyl cyclase with subsequent activation. Thereby this protein modulates cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP levels.

Phosphodiesterase Protein Activator

A heat-stable, low-molecular-weight activator protein found mainly in the brain and heart. The binding of calcium ions to this protein allows this protein to bind to cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases and to adenyl cyclase with subsequent activation. Thereby this protein modulates cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP levels.

Phosphonacetic Acid

A simple organophosphorus compound that inhibits DNA polymerase, especially in viruses and is used as an antiviral agent.

Phosphonic Acids

Inorganic or organic derivatives of phosphonic acid with the general formula ROP(OH)2. This includes phosphonates and phosphonic acid esters. The tautomeric form of this compound (P(OH)3) = PHOSPHOROUS ACIDS.

Phosphonoacetic Acid

A simple organophosphorus compound that inhibits DNA polymerase, especially in viruses and is used as an antiviral agent.

Photon Absorptiometry

A noninvasive method for quantitating bone mineral content. It is used especially in the diagnosis of osteoporosis and also in measuring bone mineralization in infants.

Phosphonous Acids

Inorganic acids that contain phosphorus as an integral part of the molecule.

Phosphoribosyl Pyrophosphate Amidotransferase

An enzyme, involved in the early steps of purine nucleotide biosynthesis, that catalyzes the formation of 5-phosphoribosylamine from glutamine and phosphoribosylpyrophosphate. EC 2.4.2.14.
