Serotonergic Agonist

Agents that have an affinity for serotonin receptors and are able to mimic the effects of serotonin by stimulating the physiologic activity at the cell receptors. These compounds are used as antidepressants, anxiolytics, and in the treatment of migraine.

Spermicidal Agents

Chemical substances that are destructive to spermatozoa used as topically administered vaginal contraceptives.

Serotonin Agents

Drugs used for their effects on serotonergic systems. Among these are drugs that affect serotonin receptors, the life cycle of serotonin, and the survival of serotonergic neurons.

Slow alpha 2-Macroglobulins

Glycoproteins with a molecular weight of approximately 620,000 to 680,000. Precipitation by electrophoresis is in the alpha region. They include alpha 1-macroglobulins and alpha 2-macroglobulins. These proteins exhibit trypsin-, chymotrypsin-, thrombin-, and plasmin-binding activity and function as hormonal transporters.

Stimulus Deprivation Induced Amblyopia

A nonspecific term referring to impaired vision. Major subcategories include stimulus deprivation-induced amblyopia and toxic amblyopia. Stimulus deprivation-induced amblopia is a developmental disorder of the visual cortex. A discrepancy between visual information received by the visual cortex from each eye results in abnormal cortical development. STRABISMUS and REFRACTIVE ERRORS may cause this condition. Toxic amblyopia [...]

Sublingual Drug Administration

Administration of a soluble dosage form by placement under the tongue.

Serum Amyloid P-Component

Amyloid P component is a small, non-fibrillar glycoprotein found in normal serum and in all amyloid deposits. It has a pentagonal (pentaxin) structure. It acts as an acute phase protein in the mouse, modulates immunologic responses in man, inhibits elastase, and has been suggested as an indicator of liver disease.

Single-Photon Absorptiometry

A noninvasive method for quantitating bone mineral content. It is used especially in the diagnosis of osteoporosis and also in measuring bone mineralization in infants.

Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Agents

Steroid compounds that act to reduce or suppress inflammation through a steroidal mechanism.

Sodium Salt alpha Linolenic Acid

A fatty acid that is found in plants and involved in the formation of prostaglandins.
