ERK2 MBP-Kinase: Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2. A proline-directed serine/threonine kinase which mediates signal transduction from the cell surface to the nucleus. Activation of the enzyme by phosphorylation leads to translocation into the nucleus and phosphorylation of certain transcription factors. p40 MAPK and p41 MAPK are isoforms. EC 2.7.10.-.
